Today I Feel Like the Spruce Goose

Neurodivergent Parenting

This is the Spruce Goose, at one time the largest aircraft.  It’s a vision from Howard Huges who a great aviator buff and eccentric person.  A sea aircraft, this plane was intended to help the WW II effort but never made it to mass production.  It’s made entirely of wood because of the short supply of aluminum during the war. It only made one flight in its lifetime before being housed in a museum. The aircraft was considered too heavy or impractical to be useful.

That is the way I’ve been feeling lately … like I cannot quite get off the ground since the new year rolled around. I’m waiting on the tarmac with a full cargo ready to make deliveries and get stuff done but I can’t quite get it together.  Do you ever feel like this?

I think it is time to file a new flight plan. Ditch the plans to make the trans-Atlantic flight that I think I am supposed to making at this point in my life.

I shared my frustration with a friend today, and she said something remarkable – maybe I could look at making short trips with a different type of aircraft.  Maybe a crop duster or a helicopter. So now I am entertaining a host of shorter flights, or short-term goals that lead to small wins instead of that life-changing trans-Atlantic flight.

But one thing about the Spruce Goose?  Its one and only flight was one mile long and reached 70 feet above the water.  it surprised the people who watched it.  It was a small goal for a big  plane.  Howard Hughes considered the aircraft one of his biggest legacies.

Maybe the small flights are more worthwhile than I considered.
